An Virtual Success!

On December 23rd, the final day before CPS educators’ began their Winter break, over 200 educators joined Mindful Practices for our virtual event ‘Don’t Worry ‘Bout a Thing.’

This event was originally scheduled to take place in person at the South Shore Cultural Center as the second of four courses on adult well-being, but in the midst of a winter storm, CPS called for the 23rd to be a “virtual” day out of concern for staff safety and well-being. In light of this switch, the Mindful Practices team got to work and modified the OSEL-sponsored Well-being course to be just as effective and just as engaging, from a virtual platform.

“I enjoyed it all. Words can’t express how I feel: I feel so loved and appreciated and I feel fabulous right now, like a STAR!”

— Attendee, CPS Network 12 Staff

Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing Presenters

Guest speakers like Pastor Chris Harris from Bright Star church, Ashley Bumpers a CPS special educator and author, Dr. Kiljoong Kim from Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, and more all brought the energy and captivated everyone who was logged on. For six hours straight, CPS educators were engaged in the sessions, lighting up the Zoom chat with affirmations and emojis, and spreading the love.

On a day that could understandably be one where educators are “checked out” and already mentally on their break, we had 200 educators who couldn’t get enough of the joy, energy, and self-compassion being shared during this event.

“I love participating in each seminar. I started with ‘Living My Life Like It’s Golden’ and now I’m here. Can’t wait for the next seminar!”

— Attendee, CPS Network 12 Staff

Mindful Practices is excited to host two more courses in this series; one coming up on February 3rd, and the final course on June 9th. If you’re an SEL advocate in CPS we would love for you to join us!
