CPS commits to Adult Well-being
On October 21st, over 350 Chicago Public School (CPS) employees joined Mindful Practices at the historic South Shore Cultural Center for the first of four courses focused on adult well-being.
CPS’ Office of Social Emotional Learning (OSEL) partnered with Mindful Practices to offer four courses that will build on one another to cultivate greater well-being and sustainability for all CPS staff. This course was specifically scheduled for the Principal-directed PD days built into the calendar this school year.
This first course focused on self-awareness and provided CPS staff a space to reflect on their own strengths, limitations, and barriers and provided time to work with “accountabilibuddies” to build action plans that will support their individual and collective well-being.
This course, themed Living Your Life Like It’s Golden (a nod to the amazing Jill Scott) featured five different workshop presenters, including Sherman “Dilla” Thomas—a TikTok famous historian, born and raised in Chicago—who talked about the importance of knowing our communities and the impact that knowledge can have on how we show up in our work.
In between presenters, Mindful Practices SEL Specialists led participants in mindfulness exercises that are immediately actionable and could be replicated in their own lives.
“The course was very inspiring with the different strategies and stories”
“It was engaging because it allowed people to open up and talk about their challenges.”
